WELCOME TO THE BAIXAS RIVERS! AND NOW, ENJOY.
You’ve waited impatiently for this escape from the daily routine and duties, and the time has finally come to enjoy this well-deserved rest. Close your eyes and let yourself go with the feelings you experience in this beautiful place, bathed by the sea and surrounded by nature: the sea breeze, the green scenery, the calm atmosphere…
Contrary to what you may think, this area enjoys a microclimate, as it doesn’t rain as often as in other places in northern Spain and if there is a squall, it only lasts a few hours. What’s more, our accommodation is situated in a peaceful environment where you can get away from it all, but also not too far from towns where you’ll find all the services you need for your holiday.
In the vicinity of la playa Major beach, within a radius of 300-400 m from the La Rana Apartments, you’ll find various restaurants, a supermarket and a takeaway food stall (only open in high season), however there is also another smaller supermarket, an equestrian centre and the París-Dakart recreational area (karts, canoes, minigolf…) which remain open all year round. Also, in the centre of Sanxenxo and Portonovo, situated a few kilometres away, there is plenty of atmosphere and nightlife during the high season.
If you enjoy walking, we recommend a beautiful trekking route along the cliffs, with magnificent views of the Ons Islands and incredible sunsets. If you’d like to discover the RíasBaixas from the sea, you’ll be interested to know that daily boats leave from Sanxenxo and Portonovo for the Ons Islands (National park of the Atlantic Islands), running from the end of June to the middle of September. It’s also possible to hire recreational boats, with and without a skipper, all year round.
You mustn’t miss out on a visit to the fishing village of Cambados, declared a historical-artistic site of interest, with many manors and churches, a 3 km seafront, the Plaza de Abastos, as well as two markets a week, banks, restaurants, 24h medical centre, a fishing port with a fish market and lively nightlife…
From O Grove, you can take a cruise along the river of Arousa (from March to October) to get an up-close look at some of the 3300 beds in the RíasBaixas, where mussels, oysters and scallops grow. However the main focus is mussels, as this region is the second largest producer of this delicacy in the world. But there’s more! In La Toja you’ll find the oldest spa in Spain, ideal for rest and relaxation, as well as the Capilla de las Conchas chapel and the Casino. On Arosa Island, which is accessed via a 2 km bridge, you’ll find Punta Carreirónnatural park and stunning coves…
And the beach? Of course! Just a few kilometres from the Sanxenxo Rural accommodation, you’ll find magnificent white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. In fact Sanxenxo is the only municipality to boast 27 km of coast and 24 beaches, of which 14 have a blue flag from the EU, the highest award of quality, which grants Sanxenxo the huge honour of being the municipality in all of Spain with the most blue flag beaches, and the second in Europe. Very well-known is the Playa de La Lanzada, a mythical beach plagued with legends, which welcomes lovers of surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing and other water sports. Less than 500 m from the La Rana Apartments is the blue flag beach Playa Major. This stunning white sandy beach offers views of the Ons Islands (National Park of the Atlantic Islands), as well as a refreshment stall and a lifeguard service during the high season. Opposite the beach, you’ll find the París-Dakar multi-adventure complex, with karts, quads, zip-line, minigolf… Ideal for the little ones and the most daring!
Galicia is also synonymous with culinary tourism: you’ll be amazed by the wine tour and the visits to wineries where albariño wine is produced. The cuisine is undoubtedly one of the main attractions of the Galician RíasBaixas. There is an endless selection: seafood, fish, meat, soups, desserts, and of course, a good Albariño, are essential for discovering the delicacies of this area at any time of the year. In this region there are also many popular food festivals. Taking into account that in summer there are over 3500 festivals in Galicia, there are many festivals in the vicinity of the Sanxenxo Rural accommodation, depending on the time of your stay, although most take place during the summer season. It’s worth giving a special mention to the Albariño festival, in Cambados, declared a National Tourist Attraction, and the Shellfish festival in O Grove.
And if you enjoy open-air sports, don’t miss out on the opportunity to hire a boat (with or without a skipper), try paintballing, diving or other water sports, go rafting, abseiling, bungee jumping, parachuting or take a hot air balloon or light aircraft ride… The possibilities are endless!
